Chanel to the rescue

That’s how life goes. It gives us sorrows, it gives us shocks, to learn and get better and put things in perspective. I have been getting a bucket load of all of the above and now I feel like I should be on the defense, to look out of what’s coming next.

In the meantime beautiful clothes always make me feel better so what is more appropriate than photos from the recent catwalk of Chanel for spring-summer 2012.

Some days ago I found out about a brand that is supposed to be among Kate Middleton’s favorites (yes I read all the gossip), even though it is on the cheap side (for her at least).  The brand is british, it first started in 1971 and it prides itself to equally combine quality, design and value.

Today I didn’t feel like writing about anything else, but this. Indignant in Sintagma is a pure civilian movement in Greece that was long overdue, but a phrase from similar demonstrations in Madrid was all that was needed to fire things up. The Spanish made up a slogan, roughly translated as, “ssshh...be quiet, the Greeks are asleep!” So yesterday thousands of Greeks gathered in the central square, in front of the parliament house and had of course their special response (in spanish!), “we woke up! what time is it? It is already time for them to leave!”

Dakota collective is an american brand that started in 2005 with the goal to create fresh, stylish fashion at a good price. As far as I can tell they have succeeded in their goal. I could easily imagine my face over the model’s in most of the looks (I am keeping the body!).

Steven Alan, has been a leader in the fashion industry on many different levels. He started out as a retailer with a store in downtown Manhattan. With time he decided to create his own men’s line.  He got to be known for designing a man’s classic shirt, but with a twist. He went on elaborating on his unique, special sense of style and has now expanded to womenswear, shoes and accessories. His spring collection is out and here are some of my favorites.

HUMAN-OID, is a Dutch global brand founded by Sandra Harmsen and Hans Boelens nearly 30 years ago, while the current designer in chief is Cecile Bleijenberg who joined the HUMANOID family in 1998. HUMANOID’s strength is that it is a brand that wants you to dress in style while feeling comfortable. It proposes looking good while having fun and feeling free. Here are some of the outfits I like. This weekend I didn’t do much as we went to a studio flat that my parents bought for the summer and I have been kind of fixing it up. I am doing it all bright yellow, grayish green and black for now with inox touches. I will show you how it turns out.

We were looking for photos to choose from, to put on frames on the walls and we came to these ones of my parents from the 70s that I couldn’t help but post.

 

This first one of my mother I absolutely love, it looks to me like a French Renaissance portrait. It is taken, as are all, by my uncle who was the only one in the family with a camera back then.

I am fixated with my family’s pictures from the 70s and especially with their style. It all comes down to this question. Where are all these clothes now and why do I only have such few of them.
