all clear, vacations ahead

While I have spent most of the summer in Athens I still can’t put myself together to sit down and write an actual post. What’s the deal with the summer? Is it the waves of heat, the much anticipated cool breezes, the light clothes, the colorful cocktails, the cone ice creams?  What is it that makes us so relaxed and out of focus?

The heat right now in Athens is sucking the life out of me. The whole weekend I was in a heat zone, I couldn’t even move from the heat, but I had to go at the city center as I have recently started work at a great space at monastiraki.

the style of the demonstration

Today I didn’t feel like writing about anything else, but this. Indignant in Sintagma is a pure civilian movement in Greece that was long overdue, but a phrase from similar demonstrations in Madrid was all that was needed to fire things up. The Spanish made up a slogan, roughly translated as, “ssshh...be quiet, the Greeks are asleep!” So yesterday thousands of Greeks gathered in the central square, in front of the parliament house and had of course their special response (in spanish!), “we woke up! what time is it? It is already time for them to leave!”

It was a summery weekend and as I had to go to the city center on Saturday morning I also I took some pictures. The first one is the Omonia square with some people lying to take some sun (in real life there is a much more obvious decadence!)

This weekend was overshadowed by our Saturday night fever celebrating a friend’s 30th birthday. She is the first one to turn 30 and the domino started from now on. Of course we celebrated it accordingly having a kind of classmates’ reunion and dancing our heads off.
This is our table at the bar, you can tell how much drinking went on.

It was a weekend of seminars as I mostly spent it at the 11th greek architectural seminar, which was less interesting than expected, but I had the pleasure of accommodating one of my best friends who had come to be there and give a lecture (she rocked it!). It took place at the Zappeion Exhibition Hall, a historic building of Athens.

Once again the weekend is over and we are in Valentine’s day.  If only it was an actual holiday… Well this was a quite weekend, I stayed home a lot and watched a lot of movies, all of which I propose for different circumstances and psychologies. I saw each one at the according time of the weekend.

This was an intense weekend as almost all my girlfriends from college (7 out of 8- we missed you art!) came to Athens from all over (Stuttgart and Salonika) to have a reunion. On Saturday night we had a girls night out at a club and it was quite surreal. I hadn’t gone out at a club in a lot of time and I was in awe with all the semi-naked dancers and the 17-year olds drinking champagne all night long. We had a memorable time, that’s for sure.

This weekend we went out a lot, so I have lots of night shots. Eating, drinking, walking, talking and taking pictures of everything inspiring.
